Kanye West Sued Over Alleged Unauthorized Sample

Kanye West is facing another legal battle, this time for allegedly using a song sample without permission on his track “Gun To My Head” from the upcoming album Vultures 2. The lawsuit was recently filed in California federal court by German singer Alice Merton, who claims Kanye used a key part of her song “Blindside” without approval.

The line in question?
“I sat down with a gun to my head” — the opening lyric of Merton’s Blindside, which she says is repeated throughout Kanye’s track, along with her melody.

According to Merton, both she and her label explicitly denied Kanye’s request to sample the song due to his antisemitic and racist remarks made publicly. She revealed she only found out the sample had been used when fans posted clips of Kanye performing the song live.

In her statement, Merton said she was “shocked and humiliated” that her refusal was ignored. As a descendant of Holocaust survivors, Merton emphasized that Kanye’s values stand in stark contrast to hers—and made it clear she wants no association with his brand or music.

She also revealed that after declining the sample clearance, some Kanye fans became hostile, and she received threats for standing her ground.

Now that Kanye has reportedly left the U.S. for Japan, it’s uncertain how the lawsuit will move forward—or if he’ll even respond. So far, no statement has been made by West or his team.
