The road to the American Idol crown took a heartbreaking turn Monday night when one of the season’s most powerful voices was sent home just moments before the final showdown.
After weeks of standout performances and overwhelming praise from the judges, Keyla Richardson’s journey came to an emotional end during the live Season 24 finale, leaving Hannah Harper and Jordan McCullough as the last two contestants standing.
For many fans, the result was one of the biggest surprises of the season.

Keyla Richardson Finishes in Third Place
The three-hour finale began with all three finalists—Hannah Harper, Jordan McCullough, and Keyla Richardson—taking the stage for one final night of performances.
Under the guidance of mentor Alicia Keys, each contestant performed one of her songs before returning with a hometown tribute that honored the people and places that shaped their musical journeys.
The Top 3 also joined Alicia Keys for a special group performance of Lovin’ You.
After America voted during the first half of the show, host Ryan Seacrest revealed the contestant finishing in third place.
That contestant was Keyla Richardson.
The emotional announcement ended an incredible run for the Pensacola, Florida, native, who had earned a devoted fan following with her powerhouse vocals, faith-filled performances, and unwavering determination.
Keyla’s Inspiring Journey Captivated Viewers
Throughout the season, Richardson consistently delivered commanding performances that showcased both technical skill and emotional depth.
Her finale performances—including Alicia Keys’ Un-thinkable (I’m Ready) and the gospel favorite I Love the Lord—drew glowing praise from the judges.
Carrie Underwood became emotional as she commended Keyla for using the finale stage to honor her faith, while Luke Bryan told her she had already “won in our eyes.”
Although she fell short of the title, Richardson leaves the competition as one of the most memorable and admired contestants of the season.

Hannah Harper and Jordan McCullough Move One Step Closer
With Richardson eliminated, the competition narrowed to Hannah Harper and Jordan McCullough.
The finalists were then tasked with revisiting the songs that first earned them Golden Tickets to Hollywood.
Harper returned to her original song String Cheese, the deeply personal piece that introduced viewers to her heartfelt songwriting and emotional honesty.
McCullough reprised Goodness of God, the faith-driven audition performance that immediately established him as a standout vocalist.
Dream Duets With Their Musical Heroes
Both finalists also got the chance to share the stage with artists they admire.
Jordan McCullough performed with Tori Kelly, while Hannah Harper teamed up with country star Lee Ann Womack.
The collaborations added another emotional layer to a finale already packed with unforgettable moments.

A Winner Is About to Be Crowned
As the night built toward its final reveal, speculation intensified over who would take the title.
Hannah Harper entered the final vote as a favorite among many viewers, but Jordan McCullough’s strong finale performances made the outcome feel anything but certain.
Regardless of who wins, Season 24 has made one thing clear: Hannah Harper, Jordan McCullough, and Keyla Richardson have all established themselves as artists with bright futures ahead.
