Eminem & Dr. Dre’s “Guilty Conscience” Goes Platinum in the UK
It took a while, but Eminem and Dr. Dre’s song Guilty Conscience has finally reached Platinum status in the UK! This proves that fans still love the duo’s unique storytelling and dark humor.
Guilty Conscience, from The Slim Shady LP, is one of Eminem and Dr. Dre’s most famous collaborations. The song features a back-and-forth debate between the two rappers, with Dre playing the voice of reason and Eminem pushing for chaos.
The idea for the song came up while they were at the gym. As Eminem shared in his book Angry Blonde, Dre suggested they take opposite sides in a debate and originally called it Night ‘n’ Day. Inspired, Eminem went home and started writing right away.
Even though it took years to go Platinum, Guilty Conscience was a hit in the UK from the start. It reached No. 5 on the Official Singles Chart and even topped the UK Hip-Hop/R&B Chart, performing better there than in many other countries. The song was certified Platinum in the US in 2022, and now, over 20 years later, it has finally earned the same status in the UK.
