Kelly Osbourne has opened up about her approach to parenting, revealing that she has never formally explained the concept of gender to her three-year-old son, Sidney.
The 41-year-old television personality discussed her parenting choices while reflecting on life with her young son. Kelly explained that she does not believe a child of Sidney’s age needs to be given labels or encouraged to fit into particular expectations.
“I don’t believe it’s a concept that a 3-year-old boy needs to try to understand,” she said, explaining her belief that children should be free to enjoy the things that interest them without having to associate those interests with gender.
Kelly gave examples from Sidney’s everyday life, noting that his interests can change from one day to the next. One moment he might enjoy Gabby’s Dollhouse, while another day he can be excited about a more physical activity such as Rugbytots.
For Kelly, the important thing is allowing her son to discover his own personality naturally rather than placing unnecessary expectations on him.
She also explained that Sidney already interacts with people in his own way, naturally responding to how they present themselves without her having to teach him specific rules about gender.
“I’ve never taught him that,” Kelly said, describing his natural approach as something she finds special.
Her comments come during a major period of change for the Osbourne family. Kelly recently moved from Los Angeles back to the U.K. with Sidney after nearly three decades in America, describing the move as a fresh start for both of them.
The relocation followed an extremely difficult period for Kelly, including the death of her father, rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, in July 2025 and the end of her relationship with Sidney’s father, Sid Wilson.
Now living in Buckinghamshire, Kelly has said that motherhood is at the center of her new chapter. Her son is also attending the same preschool she went to as a child, giving the move an especially personal connection.
While Kelly admits parenting can be challenging, she wants Sidney to grow up feeling confident enough to express himself and make his own choices.
Her latest comments offer another glimpse into the parenting philosophy she is embracing as she builds a new life with her son in the U.K.
