Music star Phil Collins played his final concert ever because he’s been having some health problems. He performed with his old band, Genesis, which includes his friends Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks. The big show happened on Saturday night at a place called the O2 in London. Phil, who is 71 years old, had to sit down while singing and playing because standing is hard for him now. He even made a joke to the crowd that he might need to get a new job soon!
Genesis got back together this year for a tour called The Last Domino? Tour. They had to wait a bit to start because of the coronavirus, and this was their first time playing together in 14 years. Phil has been dealing with health troubles for a while. Back in 2007, he hurt his neck, which made it tough for his hands to work right. Then in 2015, he had surgery on his back and started using a cane to help him walk. Last September, he shared that he can hardly hold a drumstick anymore.
Phil told a newspaper called the Guardian that he doesn’t practice singing or drumming at home. He only practices when he’s getting ready for a show with the band. He said his health makes things different now, like needing to sit during concerts, but he’s okay with it. He found out that fans still love watching him, even when he’s sitting down.
Genesis started way back in 1967 and became super famous in the 1970s. They sold over 100 million records! Phil joined the band in 1970 as the drummer and sometimes sang backup. In 1975, he became the main singer. Even though this was their last concert, Phil and Genesis gave their fans one more amazing night to remember.
