Robin Gibb was a famous singer from the Bee Gees, a band that made super popular songs in the 1970s and 1980s like “Jive Talking,” “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” and “How Deep Is Your Love.” People loved their music, but Robin’s love life was so unusual that it still gets a lot of attention today.
In 1968, before the Bee Gees became huge stars, Robin married his first wife, Molly Hullis. They had two kids named Spencer and Melissa. But things got tricky after they got married. The Bee Gees became very famous, and Robin moved to America for work. Molly didn’t want to move with him, and she kept the kids in England. Because of this, Robin and his family didn’t see each other much. After many years apart, they got divorced in 1980. Robin didn’t get to spend time with his kids again until they were older—Melissa was 10 and Spencer was 12.
By then, Robin had met someone new named Dwina Murphy. She was an artist and writer who loved interesting things like history and old buildings, just like Robin did. They got married in 1985 and had a son named Robin-John in 1983. People thought they were a cool, modern couple because they were creative and open-minded. Robin once said Dwina used to be a little wild when she was younger, and she even called herself a “lesbian” in the past, which he thought was fun. They had a special relationship where they gave each other space to do their own things, but they still stayed close.
But then something surprising happened. Robin had a secret relationship with their housekeeper, Claire Yang, who lived with them. They had a baby girl together named Snow in 2009. When Dwina found out, she was really upset and felt hurt. Even so, she didn’t leave Robin. He said Snow was a wonderful gift, but it was still a big shock for his family. Claire and Snow lived in a house near Robin’s big home, and he helped them with money.
Robin got sick with cancer and passed away in 2012 when he was 62. After he died, people learned he had a lot of money—over $35 million! He left most of it to Dwina, but he also gave Claire a house worth $1 million and more than $5 million for Snow. A few years later, Dwina said she was writing a book about Robin’s life, but she didn’t want to talk about the affair in it. We don’t know if that book will come out yet.
