Vince Gill Named As The 2025 Recipient Of The Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award

On November 10th, the Country Music Association (CMA) announced that Vince Gill would be the newest recipient of the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Vince is only the tenth artist to ever receive the award, as it is not given every year. Past recipients include:

  • George Strait (2024)
  • Alan Jackson (2022)
  • Loretta Lynn (2021)
  • Charley Pride (2020)
  • Kris Kristofferson (2019)
  • Dolly Parton (2016)
  • Johnny Cash (2015)
  • Kenny Rogers (2013)
  • Willie Nelson (2012)

The honor is given to “an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in Country Music. The award recognizes those who have achieved both national and international prominence and stature through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, streaming numbers, record sales, and public representation at the highest level.”

Sarah Trahern, CEO of the CMA, said of their selection:

He’s a true trailblazer, one who gives back to the community, honors the roots of our genre, and even now, continues to share his talent with fans across the globe. As a Country Music Hall of Fame member, 18-time CMA Award winner, and former 12-time CMA Awards host, he remains a vibrant force in our industry, and we’re honored to celebrate an artist whose influence is so deeply woven into the fabric of our format.”

Vince Gill Accepts The Award At The CMAs

The most-recent recipient of the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, George Strait, shared a long list of Vince’s awards and accolades before presenting the “Go Rest High” singer with the prestigious award. The crowd stood up and applauded the honoree as he took the stage. He joked:

“I’m pretty confident I’m the only one who has won this award that hasn’t smoked any weed.”

Vince Gill acknowledged the never-ending list of individuals who have played a role in his decades-long career. He thanked the CMA family, his Opry family, his management family, and his immediate family. Finally, he thanked his wife, Amy Grant.

“That woman I’m married to… she is the kindest soul I’ve ever known.”
