Fourteen-year-old Brooklyn Marie gave everything she had during The Voice Season 30’s Cut Week, admitting she treated her performance as if it could be her last on the NBC competition. The young singer from Alexandria, Minnesota, also opened up about her experience with coach Kelly Clarkson and shared a surprising lesson she learned behind the scenes.
Brooklyn performed Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” during the November 2 episode. Before taking the stage, she had submitted a list of songs she wanted to sing to the show’s music directors and producers. She eventually received an email with a simple message, “Here’s your song.”

Brooklyn Marie Treated Her Performance Like Her Last
After the two artists chosen directly by Clarkson advanced to the Live Shows, Brooklyn was among the five remaining Team Kelly contestants competing for one final spot.
“I definitely thought that if this was my last performance on the show, I was going to make it count. I’m going to try my hardest and I’m going to really fight for this spot,” she explained.
Her performance impressed the coaches. Queen Latifah reacted with an enthusiastic “Wow!” while Adam Levine praised her powerful high notes and reminded her that she had plenty of time to develop her already impressive talent.

Clarkson was equally proud of her young artist, praising her bold song choice and natural charm.
“Because you’re 14, you have this innocence to you that is so magical that it’s hard not to just be drawn to you,” Clarkson told her. “So, congratulations, you did such a great job.”
Brooklyn later said she felt good about her performance because she had done her best. She believed it was strong enough to serve as a meaningful final moment on the show or help prove she deserved a place in the Live Shows.
Although Clarkson ultimately selected Brianna Cameron for her final team spot, Brooklyn remained supportive. She revealed that the Team Kelly contestants gathered backstage and agreed that they would celebrate whoever was chosen.
Brooklyn Reveals What She Learned From Kelly Clarkson
Beyond the performances, Brooklyn said her time on The Voice taught her valuable lessons about music and the entertainment industry.
“I learned so much working with people, (and) learning from Kelly Clarkson. She gave so many tips on how to make it in the music industry and how to grow my vocal talent,” she shared. “Seriously I learned so much from everyone being there. I’m just really grateful that I got that experience.”
The 14-year-old also discussed how the competition helped her handle pressure. Coming from a more relaxed Minnesota lifestyle, she admitted that performing under tight deadlines was a new experience.

She learned how to spend an hour preparing a song, make decisions quickly and adjust when something did not go as planned.
Songwriting also remains an important part of her life. Brooklyn described it as her “emotional decompressor,” explaining that writing songs allows her to reflect on her day, remember what she is grateful for and express her feelings. She considers it a personal journal that is always there for her.

Although she missed part of her traditional summer with friends and had to leave school two weeks early to join the competition, Brooklyn said she was grateful for the opportunity.
She was still waiting for America’s vote after the coaches selected their artists for the Live Shows. One of the remaining 16 contestants would receive the final spot, with the result scheduled to be announced on November 9.
Despite the uncertainty, Brooklyn remained hopeful. “I feel good about what I did. I know that America’s got my back,” she said.
