Ozzy Osbourne’s final days are set to be explored in a new concert film that promises to show the reality behind the rock legend’s emotional farewell performance.
Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning will arrive in cinemas worldwide on October 28, giving audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the historic concert that became Ozzy’s final performance. The July 5, 2025 event at Birmingham’s Villa Park reunited Ozzy with Black Sabbath’s original lineup for the first time in more than two decades.
According to a source cited by RadarOnline, the film will not shy away from the physical difficulties Ozzy was experiencing in the final chapter of his life.
The source claimed that there was “never any intention” to pretend Ozzy was not struggling physically, saying the film will show the enormous effort involved in getting him onto the stage for what became his final goodbye.
Those claims have not been independently confirmed by the filmmakers, but they reflect the wider story already documented around Ozzy’s final performance.
Ozzy had spent years dealing with serious health problems, including Parkinson’s disease and complications following a 2019 fall. His mobility had deteriorated significantly, and he performed the Villa Park concert while seated on a black throne. Yet despite those challenges, he managed to take the stage for the performance he had wanted for years.
The significance of that night has become even more poignant following Ozzy’s death on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76.
The official film announcement describes the project as a celebration of his legacy, combining footage from the final concert with personal reflections from musicians influenced by Ozzy and Black Sabbath, as well as behind-the-scenes material from the event.
For Ozzy’s family, the concert was about more than simply returning to the stage.
Sharon Osbourne has previously explained that Ozzy desperately wanted one final performance so he could say goodbye. In a separate documentary, Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now, the family had already allowed cameras unprecedented access to the singer as he dealt with his deteriorating health and questioned whether he would ever perform again.
That documentary also revealed just how painful the years leading up to the Villa Park show had been. Family members discussed the impact of Ozzy’s 2019 surgery, his physical suffering and the emotional toll of losing his ability to perform normally.
The new concert film, however, will offer a different perspective — capturing the final night itself and the extraordinary effort that went into making it happen.
Ozzy was joined by original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward, while a host of major rock and metal artists also appeared during the farewell event.
What makes the footage especially emotional is that nobody watching that night knew they were witnessing Ozzy’s final performance.
He died just over two weeks later.
Now, more than a year after that farewell, audiences will have the chance to see the final chapter of Ozzy’s career on the big screen — not simply as a massive heavy-metal concert, but as the story of a legendary performer determined to step onto the stage one last time.
