Miley Cyrus has shared an emotional tribute to her beloved godmother, Dolly Parton, revealing details about one of their final conversations before the country music legend’s death.
Cyrus, 33, described the loss as deeply painful and said some of the most meaningful moments she shared with Parton were private. In her heartfelt message, she reflected on the special bond they had maintained throughout her life.
The singer revealed that one of their final conversations centred on music and “metamorphosis”, a poignant detail that has taken on new meaning following Parton’s death.
Cyrus also said she believed Parton would want her to turn her emotions into music and continue moving forward with strength. She described her late godmother as an angel who had always been by her side.

Their relationship went back decades. Parton became Cyrus’s godmother after Miley was born in 1992, following her father Billy Ray Cyrus’s friendship with the country icon.
Over the years, the pair remained exceptionally close and shared several musical moments together. Cyrus often spoke about the profound influence Parton had on her life, while Parton warmly supported her goddaughter’s career.
Parton died aged 80 on August 25, leaving generations of fans and fellow musicians mourning her loss. Her death has prompted an outpouring of tributes, with Cyrus’s message offering an especially personal glimpse into the relationship between two generations of music stars.
For Miley, however, the memories they created together will remain. Her final message made clear that while the loss is devastating, she intends to honour Parton by continuing to create music and carry her influence forward.
